About MapMinute
What is MapMinute?
MapMinute, also written as Map Minute, is a free daily history and geography game at mapminute.com. Read five clues and place pins on a world map to find where history happened. Each answer reveals the location, your distance, and a short explanation with sources.
The daily round is worth up to 1,000 points and resets at midnight Eastern Time. You can play in a phone, tablet, or computer browser without creating an account. There is no timer and no app to download. Our How to Play guide explains the scoring and how progress is saved.
Why place history on a map?
A historical clue is an invitation to explore. Finding its location connects an event or a landmark to the rivers, coastlines, cities, and distances around it. MapMinute is made for curious players who enjoy learning something along the way, whether their pin lands nearby or on another continent.
Where do the historical facts come from?
Our clues draw on UNESCO World Heritage records and selected official histories of the places featured in the game. Source links accompany the revealed answers so you can read further. The History notes section offers more context and links to its references.
A location may represent a city, a landmark, or a wider historical area. Modern borders and place labels help you navigate; they do not imply that the same boundaries existed at the time. Where a place or period needs qualification, the answer provides that context.
